Z Blair(MSW, Client Coordinator) is a native of Los Angeles but has lived in Texas since 1983. Z received her BA in Social Work from St. Edward’s University in 2008 and is currently earning her MSW as a graduate student at Texas State University-San Marcos. She is happy to be able to serve our community as part of the wonderful team at The Care Communities. Z shares her life with her husband Jeffrey and their Labrador/Red Heeler mix Saffron. She loves traveling, organic gardening, being a volunteer and is invested in the arts; visual, audible and performance of all distinctions.
Phil Garcia(MSW, Volunteer Manager) dreamed of being the next great writer and inspire social change and awareness through his work. He reconsidered writing as he grew older, but was drawn to Social Work. The Chicago native has many friends and family in Austin and has visited our city often. In fact, he played at SXSW before he made Central Texas home. Well traveled, his favorite city is Barcelona, but he also holds Berlin and New Orleans dear. Phil enjoys new experiences, from living in a new country for a few months, learning to knit or taking improv classes. He has two dogs, Chicken and Whiskey.
Edgar Gierbolini(CMP, Development & Communications Manager) has over twelve years of sales, event planning, social media and website upkeep experience. He was born and raised in Puerto Rico, but has called Austin home for the last twenty years. During his time in town he has volunteered many hours at local nonprofits such as AIDS Services of Austin, Project Transitions, OutYouth, the Austin Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and has helped produce two Austin Pride Parades. Edgar is a writer, avid reader and sci-fi nerd as well as having a passion for archeology.
Dan Holland(LMSW, Social Work Manager) was born in Louisiana, and as a child was unsure if he wanted to be a doctor or a dinosaur when he grew up. Having lived in Austin for 12 years, he first became acquainted with TCC after being a Social Work intern for the agency in 2006. Sugary cereal is his comfort food, and enjoys hanging out at the Alamo Draft House for a movie or taking a swim at Barton Springs Pool. A self avowed Star Trek fan, Dan would love to have a Tribble as a pet.
Roni Kendall(CVA, Volunteer Manager) comes to The Care Communities having worked in the social services field for many years. Her passion is working collaboratively with volunteers and others to support individuals and their loved ones challenged by serious health concerns such as Cancer and HIV/AIDS. In addition, Roni and her beloved Mountain Cur dog, Acorn, are a Pet Therapy team that visit hospital patients regularly. She was drawn to Austin for the city’s friendly community and incredible music scene. On the quieter side, Roni and Acorn enjoy walking trails and paddling local rivers.
Connie McFarland (Bookkeeper) is a survivor of stage III colon cancer and one of Cancer Connection’s first care-receivers. She was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from Cornell College with a BA in Economics & Business. After several years in the banking industry, Connie moved into the non-profit world as Financial Director of the Charlottesville Housing Improvement Program in Charlottesville, Virginia. Since moving to Texas in 2000, she has spent many hours volunteering through her church and in her daughters’ schools. She and her husband are avid college basketball fans and enjoy “March Madness” each spring
Linda Richards(Cancer Connection Program Manager) was born in El Paso, Texas and came to Austin to attend the University of Texas. She worked at Bradley Development, Brackenridge Hospital, Dr. William Caldwell and Humana Healthcare before she focused her multitude of talents on raising her family. Linda has been an active community volunteer for the past 20 years. A past President and active member of the Austin Lawyers’ Auxiliary, as well as a member of the Texas Lawyers Auxiliary and American Lawyer’s Alliance, Linda has served many other organizations in our community.
Roger Temme(M Div, Outreach Director) is a native of Detroit but has lived in Texas since 1963. Before beginning work at The Care Communities in March of 1999, he was a member of a Catholic religious community for 30 years and for almost 25 years as a Catholic priest. Besides his work, Roger enjoys walking, dancing, reading mystery novels and the company of his friends and neighbors.
